Engaging Young Minds at Cabo Verde Ocean Week 2025: A Spotlight on the ORION Project
As part of Cabo Verde OCEAN WEEK 2025, ORION project consortium member Professor Henrique M. Rendall Évora from the Atlantic Technical University (UTA) had the opportunity to engage with young minds through a lecture at the local Ludgero Lima High School on 4th November 2025. This session was part of a side event titled “BLUE TALK: Sustainable Connections – Sustainability as a Lifestyle.”
Professor Henrique delivered a compelling lecture on “Innovation for Global Sustainability: The Power of Renewable Energy – The ORION Project Case,” attended by approximately 40 to 50 participants. The audience included high school students from various schools on the island, teachers, and invited guests.
The topic that generated the most excitement was Use Case 1 – Cabo Verde, specifically focusing on real-time energy monitoring, the shift from diesel generators to shore power, and the integration of energy and meteorological data through APIs. Participants expressed curiosity about how these technologies could be applied in Cabo Verde and discussed the career opportunities tied to renewable energy and digital innovation.
In addition to this engaging event, Professor Henrique also delivered another lecture at UTA for first-year engineering students on the topic of “Energy Transition and Digitalization for Sustainability: A Case Study of the ORION Project.”
November has certainly kicked off on a high note for the ORION project, with these impactful sessions marking an important step in spreading knowledge and fostering enthusiasm for sustainability and innovation
