ORION’s First Comparative Analysis Presented at the Scandinavian Symposium

The 49th Scandinavian Symposium on Physical Acoustics, held from February 1st to 4th, 2026, in Geilo, Norway, focused on topics such as ultrasound, marine acoustics, nonlinear acoustics, and sound propagation. The event attracted a diverse audience, including academics, researchers, and industry professionals, and offered a platform for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration.

One of the presentations at the symposium was presented by Tonni Franke Johansen of SINTEF, representing the ORION project. On Monday, February 2nd, he presented “Structural Health Monitoring of a Wave Energy Converter: First Experiences,” where he shared early experimental results from a wave energy converter model test. The focus was on vibrations from a central component of the converter. Additionally, simulation results from a numerical model were presented, showing promising comparisons between experimental and simulation data.

This presentation marked the first set of data comparisons for the ORION project, specifically within the context of the Slovenian use case. The feedback received during the presentation provided valuable insights into possible directions for further analysis of the data. Although no new trends were discussed at the symposium that could directly benefit the ORION project, the opportunity to present and engage with peers was beneficial for the team.

The event also featured an informal atmosphere, fostering discussions among colleagues, both during the sessions and through scheduled social activities. This helped strengthen the collaborative nature of the symposium.
